KIA TŪ AKE TŌ TĀTOU MANA AKE O TE WAIARIKI
TE WAIARIKI WILL STAND FIRM TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND AFFIRM THAT WHICH IS OURS
Statement of position:
Te Waiariki, Ngāti Kororā, Ngāti Takapari Hapū Iwi Trust have undertaken a hapū hui with whānau and haukāinga of Te Waiariki, Ngāti Kororā, Ngāti Takapari and as a collective hapū have concluded that it is not appropriate for filming of Yenedakine: Chief of war to occur and continue at Nukurārangi. This decision has been informed by the cultural significance and korero tuku iho of the whenua (land) and kurutai (foreshore) at Nukurārangi.
Ultimately the outcome of the hapū hui was to halt production and all works pertaining to the site location. The Te Waiariki, Ngāti Kororā, Ngāti Takapari Hapū Iwi Trust would become the primary contact to engage with the film production crew as well as agencies and organisations regarding matters pertaining to the site location filming, and a further investigation would be conducted by the Hapū Iwi Trust into the approval of applications at Nukurārangi.
A more in depth memo will be sent out to whānau whose details we have registered: https://form.jotform.com/tewaiariki/hapuregistrations
